CoQ10 is a lipid soluble, vitamin-like substance, serving as a coenzyme in several key steps for the production of energy within the cell. Lipid soluble forms are considered to be as much as 4 times as bioavailable as other non-lipid forms. The bulk of clinical work has focused on CoQ10 and heart disease, namely - congestive heart failure. Since the early 60's, CoQ10 and related coenzymes compounds have been studied in the treatment of heart related diseases. The implicaiton - that congestive heart failure from a wide variety of causes has been strongly correlated with significant low blood and tissue levels of CoQ10. The severity of heart failure being directly proportional to the extent of CoQ10 deficiency. Supplemental CoQ10 significantly improved heart muscle function while producing no adverse effects or drug interactions.
